The Road

In May of 2006, I purchased and moved aboard a 43’, 1974, Nautaline Houseboat, docked in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The Road has been home for awhile and when I began my second winter living aboard, I felt the impulse to get this experience down on paper... or digital transference... whatever this is.

I wrestle with the reasons to keep this blog – almost as much as I struggle with the world “blog” itself.  Terrible word, and certainly no better than words that arbitrarily begin with e-, like “e-vite” or “e-newsletter”.  I’ve kept a journal regularly since I’ve known how to write.  They have proven incredibly useful in revisiting events as I experienced them, and not as I remember them which are often startlingly different.   I tend to write like I think, and I tend to forget what I don’t write down.

But this is very different than a personal journal because now there’s - You.  The ambiguous anyone the internet brings… You and inevitably my mother.

To both of you, I feel the impulse to disclose that as I write this, I am informal, at times vulgar, and I take no responsibility for my grammar or punctuation.  I do, however, take all questions and comments.

Thank you for your interest and welcome aboard.
